Tiny Taught is a personal education site run by Dr Shiva Shankar. This page explains, in plain terms, what information the site collects and what happens to it. If anything here is unclear, email me at docshiv67@gmail.com.
The short version
I collect as little as possible. I don’t sell anything, I don’t run ads, and I don’t pass your information to anyone for marketing.
What the site collects
Visit statistics. The site uses Google Analytics, through the Google Site Kit plugin, to count visits and see which pages people read. This places cookies in your browser (their names begin with _ga) and sends Google information such as your approximate location, browser and the pages you view. I see this only as grouped statistics — never as a way to identify you.
Practice questions. When you answer practice questions, the quiz plugin stores a cookie in your browser so a set of questions isn’t repeated at you. If you complete a quiz, your answers and score are saved in the site’s database.
Accounts. If you create an account to track your progress, the site stores your username, email address and an encrypted version of your password, along with your quiz results. You can use the whole question bank as a guest without an account.
Emails you send me. If you email me, I keep the message so I can reply and follow up.
Server records. The site is hosted by Hostinger, whose servers keep standard technical logs, including visitors’ IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Videos. Videos are hosted on YouTube and embedded here. When you play one, YouTube may set its own cookies and collect data under Google’s privacy policy — I have no control over that and no access to it.
What I don’t collect
I don’t ask for and don’t want any patient information. Please don’t send clinical details about an identifiable baby by email or through this site. I don’t take payments, so no card or bank details are ever collected.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website leaves in your browser. This site uses them for analytics and to run the question bank; YouTube sets its own when you play a video. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though the question bank may repeat questions.
Children and information about children
This site is written for healthcare professionals and for parents — not for children to use themselves. Accounts and the question bank are meant for clinicians and adult learners. If you think a child has created an account here, email me and I’ll delete it.
Parents sometimes may write to me about their own baby. Please keep those messages general and leave out anything that identifies your child. If you do send me details about a child, I use them only to reply to you, I don’t add them to any record or mailing list, and I delete them once we’re done. I can’t give advice about an individual baby in any case — that belongs with your own medical team.
Your choices
You can ask me at any time to tell you what information the site holds about you, to correct it, or to delete it — including your account and your newsletter subscription. Email docshiv67@gmail.com and I’ll do it. To stop the analytics cookies, block cookies for this site in your browser or use Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
